Fish the Mechanic ("we", "us") is an owner-operated mobile mechanic serving North Austin, Texas and the surrounding area. This policy explains what information we collect when you use fishthemechanic.com or contact us, what we do with it, and the choices you have.
Information you give us
When you request service through our booking form, call, text, email, or message us (including through our Google Business Profile), you may give us:
- Your name, phone number and email address
- Your vehicle's year, make and model, and a description of the problem
- The address or location where the vehicle is parked
- Anything else you choose to include in a message, such as photos
Information collected automatically
- Analytics. We use Google Analytics to understand how visitors use the site, such as which pages are viewed and whether the booking form is used. Google Analytics uses cookies and collects information like your device type, browser, approximate location and pages visited. It does not give us your name or contact details.
- Spam protection. When you submit the booking form, your IP address and the time of submission are checked to filter out automated spam.
- Server logs. Our web host keeps standard logs of requests to the site, such as IP address, browser and the page requested, for security and troubleshooting.
How we use your information
- To respond to your request, confirm a time, quote the job and do the work
- To contact you about your job by phone, text or email
- To order the parts your vehicle needs
- To keep records of the work we did for warranty, tax and accounting purposes
- To keep the site secure and working, and to filter spam
- To understand which pages are useful so we can improve the site
Messages and automated replies
If you message us through Google, your messages are delivered and stored by Google and are also covered by Google's privacy policy. Some replies to messages may be generated automatically to answer common questions or collect the details we need for a quote. An automated reply is not a confirmed appointment or a final price; we confirm those with you directly.
Text messages
If you give us your phone number, we may call or text you about your service request. We do not send marketing texts without your permission. Mobile information, including your phone number and any text messaging consent, is not shared with or sold to third parties for their marketing purposes. To stop texts from us at any time, reply STOP or tell us directly.
Who we share information with
We do not sell your personal information. We share it only as needed to run the business:
- Service providers that host the website and deliver email, and Google, which provides our analytics and messaging tools
- Parts suppliers, only the vehicle details needed to order the right part
- Another repair shop, only if a job is outside what we do and you ask us to pass your details along
- When required by law, such as a valid legal request, or to protect our rights or someone's safety
How long we keep it
We keep records of service requests and completed jobs for as long as needed to serve you, answer warranty questions, and meet tax and accounting requirements. Requests that never become a job are deleted when no longer needed.
Your choices
- You can ask us what information we have about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it, unless we have to keep it for legal or accounting reasons.
- You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings, or opt out of Google Analytics with Google's opt-out browser add-on.
- You can stop texts at any time by replying STOP.
Security
The site is served over an encrypted connection, and we limit access to your information to what is needed to do the job. No method of sending or storing data is completely secure, so we cannot promise absolute security.
Children
This site and our services are meant for adults. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13.
